If you’re thinking of selling your house this year, then you might be wondering when is the best time of year to put your house up for sale on the market.
As experts in the removals trade, we often get asked this question and if you ask anyone, you’ll probably get a variety of different answers back! Yes, not the most helpful…
So to help you out, continue reading this article to find out when is the best time of year to sell your house.
Generally speaking, the springtime has always been a good time of year to sell your house. If you think about it, the winter is over and people are starting to think about moving during the better weather. Â They are on the look our for properties and are in moving mode.
It’s also the time before the summer holidays and the majority of people want to move house before they go abroad for 2 weeks of the year.
That little bit of sunshine in the spring also helps to make your house look more appealing when it comes to selling it. Â Most properties don’t look there best in the winter months and look better in the springtime.
Remember the buyers caveat, today most buyers like clean and modern decor. Â Try to stay away from loud and brash colours, you need to appeal to everyone, so cream, white and magnolia are ideal colours when it comes to selling your home.
The summer is associated with the summer holidays and jetting off somewhere to relax and take a break from it all. However, many people believe that selling your house in the summer is the best time to sell.
As movers, we are certainly very busy over the summer months, but if you think about it, most people are actually away on holiday and aren’t thinking about moving at all.
It’s the school holidays and am sure most parents don’t want the children under there feet when it comes to moving.  So, moving house is perhaps best scheduled when the children are back at school.
Autumn is a good time to sell your house, as the weather is mild and there are no major holidays to contend with at this time of year.
A word of caution, if you do decide to sell your house during the autumn, I would be ready to move sooner rather than later because after October the market can slow down a bit, certainly before the winter kicks in.
You house will also look better during the autumn than in the winter, its all about appeal when it comes to selling, so you want to choose a season that makes your house look its best.
The winter is a busy time for everyone with Christmas and New Year, so the majority of people probably aren’t thinking of moving at this time.
Although in the winter of 2015, we seemed to be very busy on the removals side of the business. Â However, winter is usually a more difficult time to sell a property and its probably better to wait until January when people are thinking of the year ahead.
So the best times of year to sell are in the spring and autumn in my mind, but as I’ve mentioned selling your house really is a personal decision and one that has to fit in with your work commitments.
Remember that you want to sell when there are plenty of buyers around and when the majority of people want to move – spring and autumn.
I wish you all the best selling your house and good luck choosing the right time to sell it.
